This site started as a CLK430 specification page. Somewhere along the line, the W209 CLK was added. As was the W204 C63 and the W211 E55 AMG. The W202 C55 is here somewhere, but it looks like I neglected to add a link. I've been asked about adding the SL55, so that's coming too. Basically, this has morphed into a Mercedes-Benz specification page. In an effort to keep things orderly, I've moved motorcycles, Porsches, and DIY tasks to the Signal to Noise site. Use the scroll bar on the left to find Mercedes-Benz information.
Regarding the CLK . . .
The first-generation CLK was introduced in 1998. Internally they were known as the W208. Many of the CLK's features resembled the W210 E-Class. The gauge cluster, console, HVAC controls, switchgear, headlamps and tail lights all looked like those of the E. However, the CLK is not a two door E. The E-Class coupe was discontinued in 1996. It's true that the W208 debuted 12 months after the W210 E-Class, and this could give one the indication that Mercedes-Benz had intended the CLK as a two-door E, but the W208 is a very different design. Looking closely, you'll notice the headlamps are different. They're smaller and more elliptical on the CLK. The CLK headlamps sit in a more steeply raked nose with a deeper chin spoiler. The fender design is different, giving it the appearance of more muscular shoulders. Aside from sitting lower, the other fine distinctions between the two vehicles really stand out when parked side by side. The W208 design was produced until 2003 for the convertible and 2002 for the coupe.
